Anyway, there is a lot of bashing of the original She-Ra lately as being a “glorified toy commercial,” and having “terrible animation,” and “terrible love interests,” and in general, being in the realm of straight men who jerked off to upskirt shots, or something.

But this show was the Great Queer Awakening for many young queer ladies, and has been greatly beloved by many queer people of multiple genders. She is, quite literally, a gay icon.

The new show may be allowed to go further with that than a show that was being made during the fucking AIDS epidemic, but the original paved the way for many of us.

Anyway, Huntara and her interactions with She-Ra were part of my Great Queer Awakening and I hope Catra and She-Ra are able to do the same for the next gen of babies watching.

Actually, the original She-Ra was a supposed to be a teenager and part of the problem is that she clearly didn’t look like one.

Actually, she canonically turns 21 years old in the Holiday Special, while Adam (her twin) has his 20th birthday in his own series (you can see 20 candles on the cake).  They’re adults.

You come into MY house and try to mansplain She-Ra, fuck you, I’ve been low-key obsessed with her since the actual 80s.

Also as I noted in a different post from the one that’s been going around, teenagers in Filmation cartoons always looked like actual teenagers.  Try actually WATCHING more than three episodes of a Filmation production before you criticize them on something they never did.

Continuing the “fuck you don’t mansplain She-Ra to me” the original story bible for Filmation’s He-Man explicitly states he originally gets his sword on his eighteenth birthday and then assumes that in the series itself he’s been doing this for a couple of years, so

in conclusion the fact that I have a PDF of the original story bible for He-Man (somewhere… in all those files) probably means I don’t need She-Ra explained to me in any way, shape or form unless you’re one of the superfans that was an adult WHEN the series was originally airing, which by the way some of their sites still exist you could look this shit up without being obnoxious in my inbox and spreading around falsehoods started by people who never watched the series.

Also the episode in which Adam has his 20th birthday is The Great Books Mystery and to be honest it’s a little bit terrible.  =)
